Public Health Action Support Team (PHAST) Trips

Scheduled Week-long Trips: 2009-2010

Two week-long trips are currently scheduled for PHAST:

Spring Break 2010- South Texas:

PHAST, in collaboration with Melissa Valerio, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor, HBHE, will explore border health issues on the U.S./Mexico border (February 28-March 6, 2010).

May 2010- Mississippi:

PHAST will continue its collaboration with Delta State University and Southeastern Louisiana University to collect qualitative and quantitative survey data to assess the needs of a rural community (May 13-23, 2010).

Trip Information

Eligibility: to be eligible for the week long deployments, you must be an active PHAST member (completed all the trainings) and complete the field experience application.


Participant fees/expenses:

  • Texas: $100 participant fee
  • Mississippi: $100 participant fee

The participant fees do not cover the following:

    • meals while on trip
    • vaccinations, if applicable
    • luggage fees
    • transportation to/from Detroit Metro Airport
    • airport parking fees
    Additional Trainings will be provided.
