Faculty Advisors

PHAST is limited to 40 students per academic year.  Interested students must submit an application by September 14, 2012.

Eligibility

To participate in PHAST you must:

1. UM SPH student
2. Good academic standing (not on probation)

Requirements

1. Submit an application and gain admission
2. Attend fall training/orientation – September 22, 2012
3. Complete online trainings

• IS-100 Introduction to Incident Command System
• University of Michigan HIPAA training
• Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI)
  • Click “register here” and fill out the registration information. Make sure to select “University of Michigan” under the “Participating Institutions” pull down menu. When prompted, select “Student Researcher-Grad Student Groups Behavioral Science” to find your required courses.

HEALTH DEPARTMENTS:
To request the help of PHAST students, complete a PHAST Deployment Application and email to phast@umich.edu or call (734) 763-9234 and have the information requested on this form ready to provide to the PHAST Coordinator.

Deployment requests during UM fall and winter semesters (September through April) tend to get the best response from students. PHAST may be unable to respond to requests during the summer months.

CHINA 2008 PHAST Trip:
PHAST students were deployed to Tianjin, China in February 2008. Read more in Findings Fall 2008.

PHAST RESPONSE:
PHAST students volunteered in the Gulf Coast to assist in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts during Spring Break 2006 and 2007. Read the 2006 blog.
