Michigan Public Health Training Center

MPHTC provides continuing education to those who promote and protect the health and quality of life in our communities by offering face-to-face and online instruction to students drawn from state and local health departments, community-based organizations, health delivery systems, and health plans, as well as those studying public health.

Practice Plunge

The Practice Plunge is an opportunity for incoming and second year SPH students to step outside the classroom and into public health practice. Held during New Student Orientation, students participating in the Practice Plunge visit a local public health department and participate in a public health project with a community-based organization.

Practice Summit

The Office of Public Health Practice has held an Academic-Practice Summit to explore linkages between Governmental Public Health and Academia since 2006. Summit events include a welcome by the Dean of the School of Public Health and a keynote address by a leader in the field of public health. Summit sessions highlight new SPH initiatives and focus on academic-practice collaborations. Invitees include SPH faculty and students, Health Officers and Medical Directors from all 45 local health departments in Michigan, designated leadership of the Michigan Department of Community Health, and other public health practice partners.

Public Health Action Support Team (PHAST)

PHAST is a student-driven group with a faculty advisor whose mission is to make public health practice opportunities more accessible to students.
