Since its inception in 2002, the Michigan Center for Public Health Preparedness has taught a range of preparedness courses to thousands of public health personnel in Michigan and elsewhere. Materials, including handouts and PowerPoint slides, are archived here.
Applied Incident Command for Public Health (April-November, 2007). One-day highly interactive course designed to provide the opportunity to experience the Incident Command System in an instructive setting. Brochure (pdf)
Bioterrorism & Emergency Preparedness: A Local Public Health Perspective (March 2003). Presentations provided an overview of public health preparedness and emergency management structures in Michigan.
Bioterrorism, Emergencies and Public Health Law (August 2004). One-day course providing an overview of the legal authority for emergency response in Michigan, including emergency powers, codes and other relevant statutory authority, and the common law, as a context for examining legal issues.
Environmental Health Response to Chemical Emergencies (August 2006). One-day course in responding to chemical emergencies caused by natural or man-made disasters. Brochure (pdf)
Laboratory Aspects of Bioterrorism (2004). One-day course examined laboratory features of biological and chemical agents that could be used in a deliberate manner to threaten the health of the population.
Michigan Public Health Media Summit (June 2005). One-day course addressed some of the central issues in effectively implementing a Crisis Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) plan, including special emphasis on diverse populations. Brochure (pdf)
Public Health Legal Preparedness for Local Health Officers (October 2005). Short course examined the principles of Michigan legal authority in response to emergencies and bioterrorist events.
Public Health Response to Chemical Terrorism and Chemical Emergencies (August 2005). One-day course addresssed the public health aspects of chemical terrorism and chemical emergencies. Brochure (pdf)
Retrieving Online Information (August 2005). One-day course addressed some of the central issues in effectively implementing a Crisis Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) plan, including special emphasis on diverse populations. Brochure (pdf)
Risk Communication for Public Health (April-September, 2003). One-day course on how to effectively communicate bioterrorism-related risk to the public.
Tools for Investigating Outbreaks (March, 2008). Half-day course on using Epi Info (TM) to develop questionnaires and organize, enter and analyze data related to public health outbreaks.
