Continuing Education Information & FAQ
Continuing education credit
The Michigan Center for Public Health Preparedness seeks to provide a variety of continuing education credit appropriate to the course being offered. In general, continuing education credit requires participants of an on-site course to attend and complete all relevant assignments and evaluations; participants of an online course or those who view an archived webcast are required to successfully pass a post-test and complete an evaluation.
Nurses
The Office of Public Health Practice at the University of Michigan School of Public Health is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Wisconsin Nurses Association Continuing Education Approval Program Committee, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
Please see individual course descriptions for information regarding whether continuing education credit in nursing is available.
Certified Health Education Specialists (CECH) for CHES
CECH credits may be available for selected MI-CPHP courses and archived webcasts. Please see individual course descriptions for information regarding CECH availability for a course. The Office of Public Health Practice at the University of Michigan School of Public Health is approved as a provider of continuing education contact hours (CECH), Category I in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) through December 31, 2012, pending re-review in the interim.
NEHA
Activities for which NEHA credit is provided have been approved for continuing education credit with the National Environmental Health Association. There is no charge for these credit for NEHA members.
Other
When appropriate, additional types of credit may be offered for specific courses. Please see specific course descriptions for information regarding other types of continuing education credit available for our courses.
Completion certificates
Upon successful completion of a MI-CPHP course, participants may receive a Certificate of Completion from the Office of Public Health Practice at the University of Michigan School of Public Health evidencing their participation in the course.
Participants in onsite courses must attend and complete a post-test, if available, and an evaluation form to receive a Certificate of Completion. Distance learning courses, including archived webcasts, online courses and CD-ROM courses vary in their requirements for participants to receive a Certificate of Completion. However, all do require that at least an evaluation be submitted online.
How to obtain your credit or completion certificate for distance learning courses
Certificates are available through your account by clicking on "View Certificate Earned" for a completed course. In some cases, when you complete the requirements for a self-paced online course, your status is automatically updated to "Complete" and your certificate is immediately viewable. In may cases, staff at the Michigan Center for Public Health Preparedness manually must verify that the course completion requirements have been met. In this case, there may be a two- to four-week processing delay. You will be notified via email when your course has been marked "complete" and your certificate is viewable.
Please make sure your pop-up blocker has been turned off, should you have a problem trying to view your certificate.
