PSYCHOSOCIAL ISSUES RELATED TO BIOTERRORISM FOR NURSES
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe a model for recognizing and intervening with the psychosocial issues related to terrorism.
- Describe the principles of traumatic incident stress management.
- Practice appropriate traumatic incident stress management strategies health care professionals can use to intervene with individuals, children, families, and communities around terrorist events.
- Identify factors that make individuals, children, families, and communities at high risk for psychosocial difficulties before, during, and after terrorist events.
- Identify indicators, signs, and symptoms of normal stress responses, Acute Stress Reaction, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, anxiety, depression, fear, and grief associated with a terrorist event.
- Discuss issues regarding debriefing for health care professionals and other emergency responders.
